Smart websites for small businesses

The sites I build are powered by a Content Management System (CMS) called WordPress and are extensible, easy to use, powerful and flexible. WordPress is ‘open source’, so once the site is built the code-base belongs to you, and beyond hosting it has no ongoing licensing or rental fees applied. It has a wide developer base all over the world, so this means that you would not be in any way tied to a single developer for future updates or developments. I also offer hosting if required.

All of my sites come with Google Analytics – providing you with in-depth detail about the visitors on your website and Yoast SEO –  Search Engine Optimisation, a great tool that helps you manage content helping you to rank higher on search engines. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, I have started to assist clients with e-commerce sites in Square, WooCommerce and Shopify – they are still in the build stage so watch this space.

Chalke Valley Soaps

Design & Build

The first of the shops.. A local business that was born out of the COVID crisis, a really positive story in what are challenging times. These products are Zero-waste and 100% free of nasties!

Initially built in WooCommerce and recently moved to Shopify. Small businesses are challenged with finding a solution that fits both budget and workflow. The WooCommerce Site offered great design and customer workflow but it experienced poor performance due to budget hosting. When the time came to upgrade hosting CVS decided to up their budget and invest in Shopify, you pay more but they offer slick shop management, extra add-on’s like build your own gift boxes & are self-hosted meaning the shop loads fast. It has its limitations in terms of design but with the help of Jess at McLean Creative (Shopify experts) we were able to stay true to our design.

The Woo site has not been wasted it is now being used for wholesale and is currently being hosted by us on Site Ground, a WP specialist and is nice and fast.

Legal Sustainability Alliance

Design & build

The LSA is open to all law firms, schools of law and in house counsel. It is a collaborative network in which members share best practice and work together to ensure law firms play a full part in tackling the climate crisis.

My brief was to create a site that’s engaging and easy to navigate allowing members can access a range of tools, resources, advice and exclusive benefits to help them on their sustainability journey – The site also holds a Carbon Calculator App created by my husband.

New members are able to sign up for membership and/or newsletters via MailChimp. I’m really pleased with the way this site has come together, I especially like the additional buttons that appear on the main image, helping members to quickly access the info they need throughout the site.

The Lodge Hair and Beauty

Redesign, build & host

One of my first clients The Lodge hair and Beauty located on the outskirts of Salisbury, Sarah and Chloe were just into the second year of their business when we launched their first website four years one we decided it was time to have a refresh. They wanted strong images and a simple layout to display their prices. They’re a busy salon with limited time for admin so we decided to not use a contact form and instead encourage customers to call for appointments.

The Bay Window Gift Shop

Design, build & host

Located in the ancient historic town of Wilton The Bay Window Gift Shop has always been about being ‘different’ with an emphasis on promoting locally sourced items and those from the South/South West where at all possible.

Built with Divi/WooCommerce and hosted by us. The team at Divi/Woo offer excellent support and they improve functionality with every release. They also partner with Royal Mail’s Click and Drop which automates the shipping process and email alerts free of charge saving busy shop owners time and money.

This site is big, with over 3500 products, 8 main categories and 61 sub-categories, the challenge was making sure customers could navigate easily around the site, which we’ve successfully done by creating a mega menu which is filterable on mobile view along with clickable category boxes on all key pages.

Achill Management

Re-design and build

Achill Management is a London based environmental consultancy that helps organisations become more sustainable,  productive and profitable. I had previously worked with Amanda Carpenter CEO on another project and she was keen for me to do a redesign/rebuild of her existing site as the theme she had was too restrictive. We created a fresh, user-friendly website and whilst there is lots of information it is clearly laid out and easy to navigate. This is another excellent example of good quality images.
