Smart websites for small businesses

The sites I build are powered by a Content Management System (CMS) called WordPress and are extensible, easy to use, powerful and flexible. WordPress is ‘open source’, so once the site is built the code-base belongs to you, and beyond hosting it has no ongoing licensing or rental fees applied. It has a wide developer base all over the world, so this means that you would not be in any way tied to a single developer for future updates or developments. I also offer hosting if required.

All of my sites come with Google Analytics – providing you with in-depth detail about the visitors on your website and Yoast SEO –  Search Engine Optimisation, a great tool that helps you manage content helping you to rank higher on search engines. Since the start of the COVID pandemic, I have started to assist clients with e-commerce sites in Square, WooCommerce and Shopify – they are still in the build stage so watch this space.

Chalke Valley Soaps

Design and Build

The first of the shops.. A local business that was born out of the COVID crisis, a really positive story in what are challenging times. These products are Zero-waste and 100% free of nasties!

After looking at many solutions, I decided to go with WooCommerce, a well established e-commerce platform that is 100% flexible in design. The key here is not going crazy on plugins. I was delighted to have amazing high quality photography to work with, I keep saying it but images really do make or break the design of websites.

Planet Pod

Re-design and build

Planet Pod produce regular podcasts on all topics related to climate change and what we can do together to change the future. There podcasts aim to empower listeners to act.

I have worked with PP for a few years now and recently re-designed their site to incorporate webinars, resources and promote both commissioned and partnered pod. Built using Elementor Pro for design and PowerPress for  podcasts this site is slick and very easy to use

Achill Management

Re-design and build

Achill Management is a London based environmental consultancy that helps organisations become more sustainable,  productive and profitable. I had previously worked with Amanda Carpenter CEO on another project and she was keen for me to do a redesign/rebuild of her existing site as the theme she had was too restrictive. We created a fresh, user-friendly website and whilst there is lots of information it is clearly laid out and easy to navigate. This is another excellent example of good quality images.

The Western Front Way

Design, build and host

The Western Front Way is a long-distance walking route from the French Alps in the South to the Belgian coast in the North tracing the rough line of the Western front. It is a free path for peace where walkers are encouraged to share their stories via Twitter and Instagram.

My brief was to create a site that translates into French, Dutch & German that would get visitors walking and explore the path, the homepage hosts a video via Vimeo that shows the routes through all seasons. we were spoilt for choice on this website. The site also contains free maps to download.

True Wood Floors

Design, build and host

True Wood Floors are a Salisbury based supply and installation specialist, covering the south of England. With a strong presence on both Instagram and Facebook, it was the right time to get their website up and running. Emma has a great eye for design and wanted the site to be clear, light and easy to navigate. The site contains beautiful images that promote their brand, workmanship, and suppliers.

Leoness Photography

Design & build

Helga is a Salisbury based family lifestyle photographer specialising in authentic & relaxed photography. Helga has a magical way of capturing those special moments during pregnancy, those first weeks of a newborn to years later on a lazy Sunday when your family is fully formed.

I had no shortage of amazing images to use, our challenge was to create a design that balanced the volume of content ensuring the site remained light and easy to read.

The Lodge Hair and Beauty

Design, build & host

My first client The Lodge hair and Beauty located on the outskirts of Salisbury, Sarah and Chloe were just into the second year of their business when we launched their website. They wanted strong images and a simple layout to display their prices. They’re a busy salon with limited time for admin so we decided to not use a contact form and instead encourage customers to call for appointments.

The Bay Window Gift Shop

Design, build & host

Located in the ancient historic town of Wilton The Bay Window Gift Shop has always been about being ‘different’ with an emphasis on promoting locally sourced items and those from the South/South West where at all possible. Joanne already had a website site, however, it was very restrictive. We created a website that is an extension of the shop, showcasing a large variety of products that are available. The next step will be to make the site an on-line shop – watch this space.
